Midsummer Madness walk - 21 June 08

Due to other events being held during the year it was felt that we run the Midsummer madness walk the same Saturday as the camping weekend, (June 21st/22nd) which is being held in Dolgellau.Meeting Location :-The walk will start from the National Trust Carpark just off the junction of the A 458 and B4405 (G.R.732115 on the Dolgellau sheet 124) indications on map show Minfordd and a telephone kiosk on junction.Time :- 10.00hrs  (Route length up to 9 ¼ Miles but can be shortened dependant on ambitions of group)  The intentions of the walk is to do a “Grand Tour” of the summit of Cader Idris, or Pen y Gader as it’s known locally. To search for the grave of the legendary giant Idris, perhaps named after the historic warrior poet Idris ap Gwyddno, who was killed in battle against the Saxons in A.D. 630, or perhaps locate the observatory of the poet Idris Garw who used the mountain as a location from where to view the stars.

On the summit we might chance to gaze at our colleagues, do we see a budding great poet or perhaps someone totally insane? ,or maybe locate the “Micoria Breviuscala” the rare spider whose only other location is on the summit of Glyder Fawr, perhaps not, for with a bit of luck we have no intentions of spending the night on the summit.
