Dear Friends

Both Tracy & I hope that you are well. Autumn here is in full swing and the weather has been fabulous. The area is awash with a dazzling display of autumnal colours - in varying shades of reds, greens, browns and golds. We hope that one of the articles mentioned, may be of interest. It shows the Hall before it was Auctioned and the subsequent split of the estate in 1956. For those that completed the SNOWDONIA Marathon, congratulations. We were with you in spirit, Honestly. If you feel that the marathon is 'just a walk in the park', then something to think about for next year is the OGGIE 8 Challenge. See the link below. Do the challenge then spend the rest of your stay 'recovering'. Love it or loath it you can see the progress of the Snowdon summit centre building works. We have included some other articles that you may find interesting. Click on the Castle and River link on the right to find out some great information about Castles and the Conwy valley. We wish you well. Michael and Tracy

Coed y Celyn Hall 1956

From this link you can see pictures and descriptions of the inside and outside of the Hall taken just before the it was Auctioned in 1956. Due to the Auction the "estate" was split. The Gate keepers lodge, Gardeners Cottage, Coed y Celyn Farm(The old slaughter house) were all sold off. The Hall even had its own "mini" reservoir.

We hope next year to find out more about the Hall and the various owners. We do know that during the Second World War the Hall was used as a convalecence home

Snowdon summit building

For those of you interested in the state of play of the new summit building on Snowdon, here are 2 pictures. The picture above was taken just before last Christmas, with just the flat floorslab left of the previous building. The lower picture shows the building under construction in the last few weeks. My understanding is that it is all due to be completed around May 2008.

Llanrwst Almshouse Museum

Established in 1610 by Sir John Wynn of Gwydir the almshouses provided housing for elderly members of the area until the 1970s. These historic buildings have been restored recently to provide a community museum. Llanrwst Almshouse Museum provides a remarkable insight into bygone times in a typical Welsh market town.
