Dear Friends,
I hope that you will find this newsletter of interest to you.
The new Christmas cards are now in stock, along with 3 new card packs - Wild Flowers, Mountains of Wales, and Sheep.
For those of you that have followed it, we have news of Abi and Ali's epic crossing of the Welsh 3000s (done on Abi's 16th birthday).
Other featured places include an all day mountain walk on the Llyn Peninsula, two easy north east Wales summits, a little known cromlech, a 'must visit' beach, and an up to date picture of the new Snowdon summit building.

The new pack of Christmas cards is just out. I am very pleased that the pack has turned out so strong, because it is getting harder and harder to get snowy pictures in years with little snow. It has never been easy to catch the valley scenes in snow at just the right time, but a few years ago you could rely on the mountains regularly carrying snow in the winter. No longer is that the case and opportunities have to be grabbed without hesitation.

The Llŷn Peninsula is not normally associated with a good mountain walk, being overshadowed by nearby Snowdonia, but this is a good day out crossing 5 mountains in 2 separate ranges. These mountains are often known as the Rivals, and it is quite possible that you will have them all to yourself. This is not a circular walk, so either 2 vehicles or some method of returning to the start. Map – Lleyn Peninsula East, Explorer 254.

We have produced another 3 new card packs.
The MOUNTAINS OF WALES pack has summits from North, Mid and South Wales. My personal favourite was taken just before last Christmas from the summit of Snowdon. My youngest decided that he was going to protest being forced up a mountain by going very slowly. This proved to be a real blessing for me, as it meant that we were on the summits around sunset and above a sea of

As many of you may remember from my last newsletter, my daughter, Abi, and my wife, Ali, were taking a bit of exercise in the summer. They took on the challenge of the Welsh 3000s – climbing all 15 mountains in Wales over 3000 feet high inside 24 hours. This was to involve about 42 miles and 16,000 feet of ascent. It was not just to be a gentle workout, but Abi’s aim was to use it to raise money for children in a less fortunate position than herself.

Next time you are in Pembrokeshire, then this beach should be one of the first you visit. It is to be found at the end of the peninsula on the north side of Milford Haven, not far from Dale. It is also worthwhile getting the boat from nearby Martin’s Haven and visiting Skomer Island.

For those of you interested in the state of play of the new summit building on Snowdon, here are 2 pictures. The picture above was taken just before last Christmas, with just the flat floorslab left of the previous building. The lower picture shows the building under construction in the last few weeks. My understanding is that it is all due to be completed around May 2008.

I think that many of you will not have realized that we have recently created a new bi-monthly special offers section. These are always a chance to purchase some of our prime sellers at bargain prices. The offers are usually along a theme and involve buying multiples of the product on offer. For example, in July and August, the offers were for 4 of either of the 2008 calendars for £15.00. Currently the offers are for any 5 of our poster prints for £15.00.

These are two North East Wales summits that are easy to reach and give an enjoyable couple of hours walking.
MOEL FAMAU is near Ruthin, and is reached by a gentle 30 minute walk from Bwlch Penbarras (map ref. 162606). On the summit, all that remains of the Jubilee Tower is its base – the rest of this uncompleted Egyptian style obelisk was destroyed in a storm in 1862. Moel Famau is a great place to be for sunrise

Carreg Samson is a Neolithic burial chamber, or dolmen, near the village of Abercastle in North Pembrokeshire (Map – OL35, North Pembrokeshire, map ref. 849335). Samson is nowhere near as well known as the impressive Pentre Ifan burial chamber, but is just as worth a visit. It does not have quite the scale of Pentre Ifan, but where it makes up for this is in its position high above the sea, looking to the rugged Strumble Head.
