New greetings cards

Of the 9 new greetings cards, there was one that I was strongly persuaded into against my better judgement – I will leave you to guess which one!

My personal favourite is of a postbox in a wall. This is to be found in a very quiet corner of Mid Wales. Llanfihangel y Pennant is at the head of the quiet Dysynni Valley, at the south-western edge of Cader Idris. If you have heard the story of Mary Jones and her Bible, this is the very place that she started her epic walk from. Back in 1792, this 10 year old girl . . . (More . . .)

Monthly Special Offers

We felt it would be a good idea to have a section offering new special offers each month, and have started this with some offers for April - these are already available, and can be seen by following the link below. The previous ‘Special Offers’ section has had its name changed to ‘End of Line Offers’, as that is what they are. The new monthly offers will usually be for quantities of some of our best-selling products.

We thought it a good idea to start things with a spring-like feel, so the offers for April will be on greetings cards that have . . . (More . . .)

2008 Snowdonia Calendar

The cover of the 2008 Snowdonia Calendar features a sunrise picture of Snowdon. This is taken from high on the southern ridge of Cnicht. January’s picture of dawn over the Glaslyn Valley was taken a little earlier the same morning. These demonstrate that when out with the camera at sunrise or sunset the best pictures are not always taken towards the sun. Sometimes what the sun lights is of more interest than the blazing ball of light itself. This particular morning the sun rose from behind Moelwyn Mawr, which looked great to the eye, but just didn’t translate into a photograph . . . (More . . .)

2008 Calendar for Wales

The front cover of the 2008 Wales Calendar is taken at Llanddwyn Island. If you have never visited, then I highly recommend it. This is a special place, with 2 lighthouses, 2 large crosses, and the remains of St. Dwynwen’s chapel – she is the Welsh patron saint of lovers! For photographers and the romantic amongst you, the times around sunrise and sunset offer plenty of atmospheric possibilities – for the more sane, take a walk out to the island at a more sensible time of day. We recently took a visit with the kids and grandparents on a stormy day, . . . (More . . .)

The Waterfalls of Wales

This is not meant to be an exhaustive list of Welsh waterfalls, but here are some that I have visited and photographed. Some are very well known, others might be new to you, and are well worth a visit. Please click on the link below to see photos of these falls.

Starting from the north:

Aber Falls is an impressive 120 foot drop at the northern end of the Carneddau mountains. Approached from the north coast near Bangor, it is an easy 30 minute walk in.

Swallow Falls are a well known visitor attraction near Betws y Coed. Either pay £1 at the turnstile . . . (More . . .)

The Welsh 3000's

Our daughter, Abi (15 years old), is taking on an ambitious sponsored challenge this summer. Known as ‘The Welsh 3000’s’, there are 15 mountains over 3,000 feet high in Wales. Abi wants to climb all these inside 24 hours, without the use of any transport between them, or bottled oxygen. This will be an effort of around 38 miles and involve 14,000 feet of ascent. Some of it is over rocky ground with big drops, such as the well known knife-edge ridge of Crib Goch.

Ali, her mum, has always wanted to do the Welsh 3000’s also, but would have preferred a . . . (More . . .)

New postcards

A few new postcards have been added, as can be seen by following the link below. These are mainly to strengthen the range a little in certain areas – the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, Llanberis, Porthmadog.

One of these pictures, of Abi on Corn Du in the evening, is being used by Ordnance Survey as their main point of display picture this year.

A couple of Snowdon Mountain Railway interest have also been added. The Railway is our largest single customer, and this year the train will not be going to the summit because the summit station and café are being rebuilt. . . . (More . . .)

Sales Agent - South Wales

We have increased the range of our pictures of South Wales, and now have a need of a sales agent who wants to take on and develop this area. The area covered would be all to the south of Aberystwyth. We have previously had a couple of friends who were part time agents and currently Ali (my wife) covers the South Wales round, but all have done this from a base in North Wales – we have come to realize that the only sustainable way forward is for an agent to be based in the southern area.

The agent would be supplying . . . (More . . .)

News snippets

For those of you who order from outside Europe, the website has been giving you a choice of Airmail or Surface Mail for a few months now. Unfortunately it is easy to miss seeing the place that you choose these options, which is lower down on the page that you input your name and address. Restrictions in the software do not allow us to place it elsewhere. If you do not choose, then the website chooses Surface Mail as a default for you. This can take around 6 weeks to North America and 12 weeks to Australia and New Zealand.
