Dear Friends,

Hopefully this newsletter will give you a few ideas of some interesting places in Wales to visit - a great beach, some waterfalls and a new mountain viewpoint. There is also a new Christmas card pack. We are away for a week from 27th October to the 3rd November, so please excuse the delay on any orders placed in that time. I should get them out in the post on the 4th.

Autumnal colours

The time of year has come to get out and experience those autumn colours. I do find it quite hard to predict when to be in which place for autumnal photography. I recently drove through Wales from south to north and was surprised to find that the colours in the south were far more advanced. Also, different tree types come to their best at different times. I must admit that I find the beech woodlands to be my favourites (don’t tell the Woodland Trust, who appear to be at war with beech

Photographs for framing

As Christmas approaches, you may be looking for an attractive present for a friend or  loved one, or maybe your own wall needs a fresh image. We recently tried out an introductory offer for individually printed and signed photographs, which proved more popular than expected. As a result we have retained this as a long term part of the site.

There are currently 15 different pictures available at 16” x 11” (40.64 x 27.94 cm). To see the current

The nails at the end of the Horseshoe

Usually when I descend the Pyg Track or from Crib Goch it is at the end of a long day, and I tend to charge down the rest of the Pyg Track from Bwlch y Moch. But recently I had a long photographic day on Snowdon. I walked up overnight, to arrive at the summit of Snowdon a little while before dawn. After taking pictures there, I slowly made my way over Crib y Ddysgl  and Crib Goch – slow because I was regularly putting my camera on tripod and waiting for the

The new Snowdon summit building

For those of you who have not yet had a chance to see the new Snowdon summit building, Hafod Eryri, here are a few pictures.

I must admit to having mixed feelings about the building. I still maintain that it would have been better placed inside the mountain, with non-reflective glass windows looking out over each face. There is some excellent stonework and glasswork inside and outside, with bilingual poetry featuring on each. Inside is a granite floor, which

New Christmas card pack

The newest Christmas card pack contains 8 different cards (and envelopes) as usual. Snowy mountains feature strongly – Snowdon, Glyder Fach, Cader Idris, the Nantlle Ridge and Arenig Fawr. On the gentle side is a beautifully coloured frosted leaf. The picture of a winter fire will remind us of those relaxing family times after when we come in from the cold. But my favourite card shows frosty riverside reeds, taken on a cold but calm early morning beside the Afon Lledr.

Copa i Gopa - Summit to Summit

My daughter, Abi, and wife, Ali, completed their latest sponsored mountain challenge during the ‘great heatwave of 2009’. The task being taken on was to reach the high points of the 22 modern counties / unitary authorities of Wales inside 5 days. As far as we were aware this list had not been tackled before, and as some of the new counties are rather arbitrary, some wonderfully obscure locations were visited.

The start was at 6am on 29th June,

Traeth Llyfn - a peach of a beach!

If you are looking for an unspoilt and peaceful beach to rest or play on, then Traeth Llyfn is well worth a try. It is to be found in North Pembrokeshire, between St. Davids and Fishguard – map reference 803320. Because it is a mile or more from the nearest road, not so many people make the effort. You can walk in along the coast from Porthgain, but I prefer to approach from Abereiddi (Abereiddy) (plenty of free parking at the roadhead) because the walk takes you past the Blue Lagoon. A

Sgwd Einion-Gam - the Hidden Falls

I recently revisited many of the waterfalls of the Upper Neath Valley area with my friend Mark Poole. Our exploration of the Afon (River) Mellte and Hepste turned into a very wet day. I must thank Mark for the time he spent holding a fleece over both me and my camera whilst I attempted to wipe the water off the lens long enough to get a decent picture. One of the results of this is the picture of Sgwd Clun Isaf seen below on the right.

News snippets

This section is mainly news about what myself and the family are up to, so may not interest many of you!

This past year has not been an easy year business-wise. We mainly supply small shops in Wales, and many of these have been struggling or even closing. However, sales through the website from people such as yourselves have really grown and helped offset the downturn. Thank you very much for your continued interest and support.
